Welcome to the Society of Irregulars!

What are we? Well, first off we are an art gallery and if you have not seen our website yet you must visit our online showroom and consider a painting for your home. Second off, we are a collective enterprise of not just painters, but art-lookers, and we are embarking upon an endeavor. Where to? First read our advertisement:

Ah, yes this is not our particular journey but that of the 1914 Trans-Antarctic British Expedition of Ernest Shackleton. As you may know their ship Endurance got trapped in the ice, so this advertisement to root out the faint of heart was also chillingly honest. If you are wanting to partake in the Society of Irregulars expedition first read our similar advertisement as it would have been presented in a 1914 English newspaper classifieds section found directly below Shakleton’s had someone not torn it away:

ART-LOOKERS WANTED

For a confusing journey, personal investment required, bitter long months of looking, constant uncertainty, safe return discouraged, wisdom and humility in case of success.

*Note - Embarking in 2024, right now, not 1914.*

Unlike the Trans-Antarctic expeditions, the stakes are not you life. Yet as you can see our endeavor is not for the faint of heart. You can, and probably already have, move on to something more grabbing to occupy your time. But know this. Great reward exists in looking at a work of art for a long time. That is what we are going to be doing. Looking.

The Society of Irregulars is here to take the hand of those who want to search for meaning in the mysteries of the universe through looking at art. We are not the guide but fellow searchers, eager to discover together what can be seen after long looking and discussion, and find how something as particular as a painting can say something universal.

I hope you enjoy.
